FM Operations and Facilities Coordinator

Position Summary

This full-time position is split between two roles: the Radio Operations Coordinator which oversees KRCB-FM 104.9 operations and the Facilities Assistant position which attends to general building and property maintenance, assists with event production and logistics, performs broadcast engineering tasks and supports general workspace improvement projects. This position reports to the Radio Manager, the Director of Technology and the Chief Operating Officer.

Key Responsibilities -Radio Operations (Approximately 50%):

The Radio Operations Coordinator collaborates closely with the Radio Manager to execute the station's vision, adapting to the evolving digital landscape. Flexibility and willingness to work non-traditional hours are essential. This role manages program flow, continuity, and traffic while ensuring compliance with broadcast standards, FCC regulations, and KRCB-FM's digital strategy. The successful candidate must maintain regular, reliable attendance at our Rohnert Park office and perform each essential function satisfactorily. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.

  • Oversee and coordinate daily operations of the radio station, ensuring compliance with broadcast standards, NorCal policies, and FCC regulations, alongside CPB and NPR guidelines.
  • Create daily, detailed program logs and manage the placement of underwriting and promotional spots on air.
  • Create, maintain, and edit daily automation playlists using Automation and Traffic software.
  • Manage audio files and schedule content for weekly program promotions.
  • Conduct quality control functions to ensure produced content is ready for broadcast.
  • Monitor national content to ensure correct audio is scheduled for air.
  • Manage the automation system, ensuring that scheduled content airs as intended.
  • Ensure special broadcasts, breaking news, and unexpected programming are ready for air as directed by the Radio Manager.
  • Operate the radio board and studio equipment as needed, assisting the engineering and IT departments with technical troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with IT, Engineering, Radio staff and volunteers to improve operational efficiency.

Facilities Operations (Approximately 50%): 

 This section outlines the essential functions for the Facilities role but may not encompass all tasks that could be assigned.

  • Day-to-day facility and property upkeep as needed to maintain optimal visual appearance, workspace efficiency and public safety.
  • Preventative and planned maintenance including building safety compliance, scheduling annual inspections, updating facility and equipment documentation and
  • maintaining positive vendor relationships.
  • Team-based event planning, production, setup and teardown
  • Coordinates vendors, prepares purchase orders for supplies, organizes and maintains equipment inventory.
  • Light custodial work, landscaping, irrigation maintenance, painting and minor repairs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct reports.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of traditional and digital radio production processes.
  • Experience with digital audio editing software (Adobe Audition, ProTools) and familiarity with podcasting platforms.
  • Proficient with MS Office and digital content management systems (CMS).
  • Excellent organizational and collaborative skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Live audio, video and lighting production skills
  • Creative mindset for researching, sourcing items, troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, take direction and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Basic carpentry, electrical, painting and landscaping skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Certificate in broadcasting, media production, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of one years’ experience in FM broadcast operations, preferably in public broadcasting and digital media.
  • Knowledge of radio communications, traffic software systems, and understanding public radio principles and standards.
  • Two years’ experience in facilities maintenance and event production.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner at all times.
  • Frequent operation of computer and other equipment typical for broadcasting and engineering.
  • Must be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods, as well as stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach, and stoop as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally move, lift or carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • In addition, the individual must be punctual, have a good attendance record, a valid driver’s license, have reliable means of transportation to work and current vehicle insurance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Weekend and evening/after-hours work is required, and travel may be necessary.
  • Conditions may involve noise, dust, exposure to weather.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.
  • The employee works in various environments including FM and TV studios, offices, outdoor settings with exposure to different weather conditions and plenum spaces.

WHAT WE OFFER:

This is a full-time 40-hours per week, non-exempt position, at a starting range of $25-$27 per hour, based on experience. Full-time benefits offered include medical, dental, vision, 403B, paid vacation and holidays, floating holidays, flexible work schedule, and mental health resources.
