There’s a new game in town, specifically a Hip Hop Gameshow.

Freestyle MCs are fascinating to watch perform, as they weave improvised lyrics over beats in real time.

“It's myself making beats, live beats, and then my partner King Lung raps and sings and does vocals,” said Levi Miller. “We make it all live in the spot. I play all the parts. I have a whole loop station with keyboard and iPad. And then we also have a little vocal station where he's live sampling himself and making loops.”

Miller is part of the improvised hip hop duo called Dark Matter Lives. June 11th at The Lost Church in Santa Rosa is the premiere of the event called “Who’s Rhyme? Hip Hop Gameshow.”

“We have a rotating cast of MCs. So we've got different people coming in,” said Miller. “So every show's different and unique and we play a bunch of rap battles and word games with tons of audience participation and input.”

Miller says there are different challenges for the MCs.

“One is called no rhyme where they have to rap without rhyming. We have other games called rap relay where the artists are trading bars back and forth until they get to word for word they're going back and forth,” said Miller.

While scores are kept, it’s more for fun, according to Miller.

“It's really just a platform for these artists to show what they can do, play with each other, have parameters set on them and see what they can do and you know if they land it, it's going to be fantastic, but also if they crash and burn, I think that'll be really fun too,” said Miller.
